The Day the Music Died

December 8, 1980 – John Lennon is murdered outside his New York City apartment.  About 5 o’clock that evening, Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono were leaving their apartment in the Dakota Building on New York’s west side.  Mark David Chapman approached the couple and asked Lennon to autograph his copy of the just released Double Fantasy album.  Just before 11 PM, they returned and Chapman fired 5 shots, 4 of them hitting Lennon in the back.  When police arrived they found Chapman sitting quietly reading Catcher in the Rye and he was arrested without incident.  The police, recognizing the seriousness of Lennon’s wounds, transported him to the hospital where he was pronounced Dead on Arrival.

Imagine there’s no heaven It’s easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people living for today
Imagine there’s no countries It isn’t hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people living life in peace
You, you may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one I hope some day you’ll join us And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions I wonder if you can No need for greed or hunger A brotherhood of man Imagine all the people sharing all the world
You, you may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one I hope some day you’ll join us And the world will live as one
